The US Space Force, created under former President Trump, has released its rank system. And with all apologies to Star Trek and Star Wars fans, they won’t be using Navy Ranks.
According to their announcement, there will be Specialists, Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains, Majors, Colonels, and Generals, but alas, no Admirals. This makes me a little sad since I’ve personally always visioned a space force as an extension of the Navy, not the Air Force. I mean, you have ships, right? And like the oceans of old, space is the new great expanse, open for the next phase of human exploration.
But, Space Force is by extension, the Air Force, so it makes sense. Plus Space Force ranks were decided by crowdsourced feedback. So hey, the majority wins.
Also, according to the release, Guardians will wear Air Force rank insignia, until the Space Force has its own rank insignia designs.
And if you haven’t seen the Space Force recruitment video, you can check it out below. It’s futuristic and inspiring. If I was a teenager again, I might just think about a career in the Space Force. It sounds like pretty exciting stuff.
